The winners of the two ALDS series will advance into the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, which will be played in San Diego beginning Oct. 11, too with no days off between games. No action has been accepted by the league itself to cover the problem, though a self-respecting championship trophy in the Maroons sits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The overwhelming majority of young black males who rally to the forecast of the sports and style media are attracted to football or basketball. What I find most worrying is the fashion in which the educational opportunities of several young black males are seemingly being hijacked. However, I always find myself asking, when confronted with these kinds of stories of success and material wealth, how much more would our stars and leaders do by means of sponsoring student applications or connecting their names, talents and wealth to charter schools, universities and colleges, healthcare programs, mentoring programs, summer camps, distance camps, foreign language learning schemes, cultural exchange programs, computers at universities, science and engineering endeavors, hospitals, practices, fair rental home development strategies, libraries, and urban renewal initiatives. But it's unfortunate that interviews with such folks or real-time media representations of the own lives off the field or court are still few and far between.
